1HeaIth Biotech Startup Bootcamp — From Lab to Market
Between September 1–19, 2025, I participated in the 1HeaIth Biotech Startup Bootcamp – From Lab to Market,
an intensive three-week program held in Timișoara, Romania, dedicated to helping researchers and innovators bring biotech ideas from the lab to real-world markets.
Organized by BioMentorHub, the bootcamp combined two weeks of online training with a final in-person week in Timișoara, gathering scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors passionate about healthcare innovation and biotechnology.
🚀 From Research to Real-World Impact
Throughout the online phase, participants explored key aspects of startup development — from intellectual property and market validation to business modeling and governance.
The sessions were led by seasoned experts including
Mark Crowell, Gordon McConnell, Michael S. Rosen, and Agata Nyga,
who shared practical insights on patents, startup structuring, and investment readiness.
Interactive modules encouraged us to design business models around real scientific concepts, refine our value propositions, and learn how to communicate complex ideas effectively to investors.
🎯 Mentorship and Collaboration
A major highlight of the bootcamp was its mentorship program.
I had the opportunity to engage with and receive guidance from an exceptional group of mentors:
Timmy Ghiurau, Todd Headley, Andrei C. Munteanu, Ștefan Ilie Tudor,
Nicolai Strøm-Olsen, Daniela Nitoiu, and Gabriela Cimpan.
Their diverse experience — spanning business, research, and venture creation — provided valuable feedback and perspective, especially during my first pitching session, where participants presented their biotech startup ideas and received expert feedback.
🎤 On-site Week in Timișoara
The final in-person week in Timișoara brought all these learnings together through hands-on workshops, networking sessions, and live pitch events.
Speakers from both academia and industry — including Marco Kogler, Nicolai Strøm-Olsen, Tudor Stanciu, Martine Abboud, Andrea Balukova, and Emma Salgård Cunha from the University of Cambridge — shared insights into global biotech ecosystems, communication, and leadership.
This phase emphasized the importance of collaboration and multidisciplinary thinking in transforming research outcomes into scalable, high-impact ventures.
